Las Vegas, Nev. – Harrah’s Comedy-Magician Mac King visited students at three local elementary schools to promote the importance of reading during Mac King’s Magical Literacy Tour: Nevada Reading Week 2013. Assemblies were held at Rex Bell, Matt Kelly, and Quannah McCall Elementary Schools where King read short stories to the students, performed magic tricks, and talked about the importance of reading, sharing the magic words “Read More Books.”
Mac King’s Magical Literacy Tour partnered with The Public Education Foundation and the Reading is Fundamental program to ensure that every student at each school would receive a book to take home. In February, King held book drives with the Las Vegas Wranglers hockey team and Sky Zone Indoor Trampoline Park. Together they collected more than 800 books that King hand-delivered to the schools for the teachers’ classroom libraries.
“This year, Mac King’s Magical Literacy Tour was bigger and better than ever. Thanks to our community partners and those who donated books, we were able to send each kid home with a book this year, and provide books for the classroom libraries,” said King. “I am happy that we were able to put a smile on more children’s faces this year and share the joy of reading.”
Launched in 2011, Mac King’s Magical Literacy Tour is in its third year of providing reading opportunities to local elementary school students and has collected more than 6,500 books to date.
