Hawaiian Luau at the Imperial Palace

August 14, 2008.   Mmmm, roasted pig, exotic dancing, hot men, delicious drinks, and a tropical Hawaiian atmosphere; yes, I am describing the Luau located in the Imperial Palace in Las Vegas.The luau can be experienced next to the Shangri-la Pool which is crystal clear, huge, with plenty of seating. At sunset, sitting poolside was inviting and all the while I was being entertained with an exceptional Polynesian event.

Imperial Palace is a highly recognizable hotel especially at night since the glow of the blue makes it a sight to see. As for the hotel, it contains so many possibilities from the pool, spa, salon, shopping, and even golfing opportunities. Legends in Concert, Karaoke Club, and Rockhouse bar & nightclub are just a few other events besides the Imperial Luau. This resort also offers wedding packages for those sweethearts in Las Vegas. Oh, the memories you could take home.

As for my memorable experience at the Imperial Luau, I was greeted at the door with a colorful lei and escorted to my seat to watch the pre-show. As the crowd was being seated, I was able to order delicious and very cold drinks for me and my son who loves fruit punch. My first impression was that this was a very family-friendly environment where people of all ages could come and have fun.

Also included was the island-themed all-you-can-eat buffet which I have to say was impressive. There was roasted pig, seafood, plenty of pineapple, and an extensive dessert bar. The line seemed to be pretty long, but went quickly and I found myself filling my plate not twice but three times. I ate way too much, but I could not help myself. That pig was delicious.

Once the show started, I was mesmerized by the beauty of the dancers and their movements. The show welcomes audience participation by celebrating birthdays, anniversaries, and other special occasions Polynesian style, of course. There were plenty of Hawaiian songs and all I can say is “WOW” because those hula dancers’ movements were so fluid. The dancers were in traditional costumes and the dances were examples from the South Pacific from Hawaii to the Galapagos to the Philippines. By the end of the show my hands hurt from clapping. The highlight was definitely the torch show towards the end, it was awesome. With live music, traditional costumes, original choreography, and the fire-eating finale, you are sure to be impressed.

Imperial Palace is transformed into a Pacific-Island paradise each Tuesday and Saturday every summer from May Sep. 30.
