Rumor All-Suite Hotel in Las Vegas
September 3, 2010
The Siegel Group has opened Rumor, an all-suite, non-gaming hotel, in Las Vegas as part of its Boutique Chic Retreats collection. Formerly the St. Tropez Hotel, the two-story Rumor offers 150 suites and a Las Vegas-meets-Palm Springs ambience.
Its unconventional design includes elements like Chinese foo dog sculptures hand-carved from solid slabs of cantera stone, flowing draped in the porte cochère, an ultra lounge-like lobby accented with criss-crossing metallic lines on the pavered floor, and splashes of lavender throughout the property, against a white color palette.
The property’s restaurant, Addiction, incorporates classic dishes with a modern flair for breakfast, lunch, dinner and room service. Helmed by Chef Vic Vegas,
Addiction’s signature dishes include crème brûlée oatmeal, the Cuban Reuben, sea bass satays and Kurobuta karmal pork. A private dining room seats 12 with dripping chandeliers and a high, communal table. The main restaurant spills out into the courtyard with indoor and outdoor seating.
The courtyard features a pool area, wet deck and lawn, all framed with matured palm trees. At night, this area transforms into an outdoor nightclub with DJs and live musicians.
Rumor welcomes pets, offering an outdoor dog run, customized in-suite bowls and plush dog beds.
Half of Rumor’s 150 suites face into the courtyard and feature either a balcony or a patio.
The suites feature gray-hued walls and splashes of lavender patterns, and a carved wall medallion is situated above the bed. In-suite amenities include a basket of sugar confections and Warhol-inspired chandelier art.
Many suites feature oversized tubs that are surrounded by mirrors and come with scented bubble bath.
Later this summer, Rumor will unveil the Fantastic Four Suites, which will feature with bold, square lines in the flooring, beds and ceilings.
Utilizing a basic color palette of gray, black and silver base tones, the suites will be punctuated with accents of pink and purple.

MGM Grand Restaurants Win Wine Spectator Awards
September 3, 2010
Eleven restaurants at the MGM Grand have received 2010 Wine Spectator’s Restaurant Wine List Awards — more than at any other single property worldwide.
The restaurants are Tom Colicchio’s Craftsteak, Nobhill Tavern, L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon, Seablue, Diego, Pearl, Shibuya, Emeril’s New Orleans Fish House, Wolfgang Puck’s Bar & Grill and Fiamma Trattoria.
Joël Robuchon’s wine program received top honors and “three glasses” with The Grand Award.
In total, MGM Grand restaurants amassed 19 glasses this year.
To qualify for an award, each restaurant’s wine list must follow strict standards and provide information including vintages and appellations for all bottles and wines by the glass.
Everything from complete producer names and correct spellings to overall presentation are considered.
If they are selected, restaurants are granted one of three awards — The Grand Award (“three glasses”), The Best of Award of Excellence (“two glasses”) or the Award of Excellence (“one glass”).
Approximately 52,000 bottles of wine are housed within the MGM Grand, representing 4,710 wine labels and 156 selections available by the glass.

Planet Hollywood, PH Towers Ban Resort Fees
September 3, 2010
Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino and PH Towers Westgate have joined other Harrah’s Entertainment hotels in Las Vegas in banning resort fees.
The resorts join Caesars Palace, Harrah’s Las Vegas, Paris Las Vegas, Rio All-Suites Hotel & Casino, Flamingo Las Vegas, Bally’s Las Vegas, Bill’s Gamblin’ Hall & Saloon and Imperial Palace as official “no resort fee zones.”
The announcement was commemorated by Holly Madison, star of “Holly’s World” and Planet Hollywood’s “Peepshow,” in an unveiling of $12 million in cash, the amount spent last month on resort fees by visitors to the Las Vegas Strip.
Harrah’s Entertainment is the first major casino operator on the Las Vegas Strip to completely remove such fees. Competitor resorts have eliminated them for select guests, but most continue to assign fees which, in some cases, are in excess of 40 percent of the advertised room rate and are often not prominently advertised to the guest, according to Harrah’s.
To celebrate the elimination of resort fees and heighten consumer awareness, Harrah’s has launched a No Resort Fees — The Travel Smart Choice campaign, including a global Skip the Resort Fees Sweepstakes.
At the conclusion of the three-month sweepstakes, one winner will take home $21,900, the sum total of three years of resort fees at $20 per day.
The winner must be age 21 or older and is not required to be present in Las Vegas for the drawing. For full Skip the Resort Fees Sweepstake rules and procedures, visit www.vegasnoresortfees.com .
