Artist Info: Beginning her musical career at the age of 15, Melissa Manchester was discovered while performing in the Manhattan club scene by Barry Manilow and Bette Midler, who took her on as one of her backup singers, the Harlettes. Manchester’s debut album, Home To Myself, was released in 1973. Manchester’s fame rose with the release of Melissa, which peaked at number 12 on the Billboard charts.
The album produced her first top-10 hit, “Midnight Blue,” which peaked at number six on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Manchester received a Grammy Award nomination for her version of Peter Allen’s “Don’t Cry Out Loud” in 1979. The single peaked at number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Manchester’s biggest hit came in 1982, with “You Should Hear How She Talks About You.” The single won a Grammy Award for “Best Female Vocal Performance” and reached number five on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Manchester’s most recent studio album, When I Look Down That Road, was released in 2004.
In addition to music, Manchester is an established actress, with roles on-stage in Andrew Lloyd Weber’s “Song And Dance” and “Music of the Night,” as well as the television series “Blossom” and the film, “For the Boys.” Throughout her successful career, Manchester has produced 25 albums, including several motion picture soundtracks.

Boyd Gaming Kicks Off NASCAR Weekend with Appearances by Nationwide and Sprint Cup Drivers
LAS VEGAS – NASCAR Weekend is one of the most anticipated events on the Las Vegas calendar, and Boyd Gaming Corporation is once again revving up for the 15th annual Sam’s Town 300 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Bellagio Receives Conde Nast Traveler’s Navigator Award

Bellagio in Las Vegas has received Conde Nast Traveler’s Navigator Award, which is granted to an individual, on behalf of a travel organization or destination, who, in the opinion of Conde Nast Traveler’s publisher, possesses an “extraordinary legacy and consistently upholds the highest standards of excellence in hospitality,” according to the hotel.
The recipient demonstrates “an industry-leading commitment to quality and ranks among the world’s greatest hosts for the magazine’s readership.”
Bellagio President and COO Randy Morton accepted the award on behalf of the resort’s more than 8,000 employees. This is only the second time the magazine has granted the Navigator Award; the first time was in 2009 to Gov. Linda Lingle on behalf of the State of Hawaii.

Las Vegas Mob Museum to Open on Valentine’s Day

The National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement (a.k.a., the Mob Museum) is set to open on Valentine’s Day in downtown Las Vegas.
The museum provides the true story of the mob via interactive exhibits and multi-sensory experiences. Artifacts include the St. Valentine’s Day Wall, where, in Chicago on Feb. 14, 1929, seven men affiliated with the Bugs Morgan gang were shot to death, reportedly by the South Side Italian gang led by Al Capone.
Another artifact is the barber chair where Albert Anastasia was sitting when he was killed in New York City on Oct. 25, 1957. Artifacts belonging gangsters including Capone, Charlie “Lucky” Luciano, Meyer Lansky, Ben “Bugsy” Siegel and Mickey Cohen also are on display. Included are weapons, jewelry and other personal belongings, as well as photographs.
Among the interactive elements, visitors can shoot a Tommy gun, listen to real FBI surveillance tapes on wiretapping equipment, take part in FBI weapons training, and hear evidentiary wiretaps, learning the meaning of what is being said and decoded.
The 41,000-square-foot museum features approximately 17,000 square feet of exhibition space on three floors, plus a retail store, special event areas, educational areas and office space. Museum hours, though subject to change, are Sundays through Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays until 8 p.m. Admission (plus tax) is $18 for adults; $12 for children ages 5 to 17 and students ages 18 to 23 with ID; $14 for seniors, military, law enforcement personnel and teachers; and $10 for Nevada residents of all ages.
