TrekAmerica Free Sight-Seeing With Tour Bookings
March 14, 2010
Tour operator TrekAmerica is spreading some New Year cheer by throwing in free activity vouchers on tour bookings made during January 2010.
The vouchers entitle travellers to a free sight-seeing activity in the city where their tour starts or finishes.
Options include ‘must-do’ American experiences such as admission to the observation decks at the Empire State Building in New York and the Seattle Space Needle; and free full-day bike hire in Venice Beach, Los Angeles.
The vouchers also cover further sight-seeing activities in the gateway cities of San Francisco, Las Vegas, Boston, Chicago and Anchorage.
This added-value offer is valid with any TrekAmerica tour in North America booked before 31st January 2010.
Activity vouchers can be redeemed at the start or end of a tour, so passengers booking non-circular routes – a coast-to-coast road trip for instance – will be able to choose between two different activities.
The full list of free activities being offered by TrekAmerica is:
• NEW YORK – Free admission to the Empire State Building observation deck. Experience the panoramic views of Manhattan from the 86th floor of this historic landmark
• LOS ANGELES – Free full day bicycle hire on Venice Beach. Soak up the sunshine and cruise along California’s world-famous Santa Monica and Venice beaches

Bellagio Gallery and Conservatory New Exhibits
March 14, 2010
The Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art (BGFA) and Bellagio’s Conservatory & Botanical Gardens have announced new exhibits. The BGFA will debut “Figuratively Speaking: A Survey of the Human Form” on May 1. Organized in partnership with the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD) and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA), “Figuratively Speaking” will present figurative works by artists like Pierre-August Renoir, Pablo Picasso, Alberto Giacometti, Joseph Cornell, Roy Lichtenstein, David Hockney, Judith Shea, Bill Viola, Yoshitomo Nara and Vanessa Beecroft.
The survey will feature more than 30 paintings, photographs and sculptures, along with video installations by 26 artists whose traditional and contemporary perspectives on figurative art helped to define the genre in the late 19th, 20th and early 21st centuries.
The exhibit will be on view May 1, 2010, through Jan. 9, 2011.
Tickets are $15 for general admission; $12 for Nevada residents and seniors age 65 and older; $10 for students, teachers and military with valid ID; and free for children 12 and younger.
For more information, call 877-957-9777 or visit www.bellagio.com or www.ticketmaster.com
In celebration of spring, the conservatory will feature a floral exhibition filled with blooms and a series of large-scale bronze sculptural ants.
Inspired by the social nature of these creatures, American artist Susan Cochran created a seven-member colony that represents the ideals of cooperation and teamwork.
Four gardens will provide a landscape for these sculptures. Guests will be able to climb onto the 8,500-pound queen ant’s back for photo opportunities with botanical snails and bumblebees, as well as tulips, poppies, daisies, mums and daffodils.
Steps away, three 10-foot-long ants will be placed at the mouth of a 15-foot-tall flower pot.
A butterfly will rest atop the pot, while a 28-foot spade will stand nearby.
Overhead will be bumble bees made of preserved sunflowers.
Close by, five giant mushrooms will provide a canopy for a pair of 6-foot-tall ants.
And a French garden will envelope a large anthill flanked by two water spheres with a 3-foot-long ant nearby. Throughout the exhibit will be 10 potted olive trees, each more than 100 years old. Access to the exhibit, which runs from March 14 through May 9, is complimentary to the public.
