Santana Plugs into The Hard Rock Las Vegas

February 15, 2010
Many musicial artists bill a live performance as “unplugged”, but if you have not been to the new Joint at the Hard Rock Las Vegas, then you should get plugged into Santana, because he is plugged into every circuit, electrified, wired, and radiating sparks all over the place.
Although Santana has not put out a new album for some years, mostly compilations with other artists, you can catch his guitar handiwork at the Joint by Rogue (the new venue name). And you can catch Santana and his band on a regular basis because he is the Rock Artist of Residence at the Joint.
I must agree with many that the new Joint is superior to the old Joint, with more seating, airier atmosphere, larger bars, and still not a pillar to block the view. Carved out of the former parking lot, the Joint by Rogue brings you name acts year around – but Santana is their only artist in residence.
The night I saw Santana, he played many of his stalwart standbys, such as “Black Magic Woman”, “Oyo Como Va”, and others, but it was mixed in with new arrangedments of great songs from Deep Purple and other past metallic masters; anything Santana does is a refreshing approach.
Santana first appeared on stage with the curtain drawn just a slit to highlight him and the snapping and cracking lightning storm behind him and the thunder and magic never ceased for over 90 minutes. Santana still was donned in his trademark multi-colored jacket first glimpsed at Woodstock in 1969, but his bead band has been replaced by a cool Fedora. The guitar action was fast and mosaic, but I must also note the exceptional drumming from Dennis Chambers that was verging on esoterical. The whole band is future present with their outlook on life and entertainment value.
Signing on as the first rock and roll resident artist in Las Vegas, Carlos Santana brings his legendary talent to The Joint through a multi-year deal with AEG Live. Through 2010, The Joint will be the only place west of the Mississippi where fans can see Santana perform. Titled to pay homage to his most successful body of work to date, Supernatural Santana: A Trip Through the Hits features the artist’s signature fusion sound in a show designed exclusively for the new venue.
Santana plays approximately 36 shows per year at The Joint. Tickets prices start at $51 and can be purchased by visiting the Hard Rock Hotel Box Office, or at the Ticketmaster banner above. For groups of 20 or more, call the Hard Rock Box Office at (702) 693- 5233. For more information, visit www.supernaturalsantana.com Carlos Santana’s Facebook page or The Joint’s Facebook page.

The Phantom of the Opera still haunts The Venetian in Las Vegas

February 15th, 2010 | Category: Uncategorized

February 15, 2010
It has been some years since the Phantom of the Opera premiered at the Venetian Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, and I always find it interesting to go back and visit a production to see how it has changed.
The extraordinary singing and orchestral numbers are still vibrant, buoyant and uplifting and occasionally meant to be dismal as the Phantom descends into his own despair with the knowledge he will never capture the love of Christine.
At a recent viewing of the magnificent opera, I noticed that some of the effects been upgraded but still integrate perfectly with the production. Also what is cool from one viewing to the next is the addition of new cast members to the hit show. In this case, the new arrival is Jacob Moody, as a stunt man and stage man. Yes, there are unusual stunts engineered into the flowing, colorful opera.
With grand Broadway productions being staged in the desert, it is no wonder that this version is billed as: Phantom – The Las Vegas Spectacular and it has been rated the # 1 Show in Las Vegas! This all-new production of the worldwide favorite haunts The Venetian and thrills audiences six nights a week.
From the moment you enter the magnificent custom-built theatre you enter the storied Paris Opera House and become part of the Phantom’s world. Featuring every beloved Andrew Lloyd Webber song from the original, spectacular sets, new effects, and a breathtaking chandelier experience, Phantom is an only-in-Vegas experience.
Phantom – The Las Vegas Spectacular performs at The Venetian Resort – Hotel – Casino on Monday at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., Tuesday – Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.
Ticket prices range from $72 to $160 plus tax and service fees.
The VIP Experience, which includes a Golden Circle ticket, souvenir program, backstage tour and meet and greet with the stars of the show, is available for $250.
