Aria Resort & Casino on Las Vegas Strip

December 24th, 2009 | Category: Uncategorized

December 24, 2009
With fireworks and ceremony, Aria Resort & Casino opened its doors on Wednesday, Dec. 16, and welcomed its first guests. Located in CityCenter, Aria is the centerpiece of a new urban resort destination. Its debut signifies the official grand opening of CityCenter, a city-within-a-city, following two weeks of celebrations for the openings of the Vdara Hotel & Spa; Mandarin Oriental, Las Vegas; and the Crystals retail and entertainment district.
Featuring a combination of striking architecture, sustainable design, high-end service and spectacular amenities, Aria dramatically alters the skyline the Las Vegas Strip.
“Aria and CityCenter reflect a combination of innovation, energy and visionary design that we believe will reshape how the world views the destination resort experience and attract visitors from around the globe as a landmark of taste and style,” said Jim Murren, chairman and CEO of MGM Mirage, which developed CityCenter in partnership with Infinity World Development Corp., a unit of Dubai World.
Designed by Pelli Clarke Pelli, Aria features two breathtaking curvilinear steel and glass towers.
At 18 million square feet, CityCenter is the largest private sustainable development in the world, having received six LEED Gold certifications for its buildings. At an early morning press conference yesterday, company executives and other officials, including the president, CEO and founding chairman of the U.S. Green Building Council, were on hand to pay tribute to CityCenter’s sustainable design, construction and operations.
Among its sustainable distinctions, Aria commissioned the first fleet of clean-fueled CNG stretch limousines.
It also is the first resort on the Las Vegas Strip to generate its own electricity.
Also part of opening events, senior executives from both MGM Mirage and Infinity World had the honor of remotely ringing the closing bell of the New York Stock Exchange, marking the project’s major contribution to Las Vegas. CityCenter is creating new jobs for approximately 12,000 people.
A grand opening gala capped the opening day’s activities, giving VIP guests an opportunity to sample Aria’s hospitality and array of amenities.
Finally, at 11 p.m. fireworks filled the sky, reflected in Aria’s curved glass curtain wall, as Las Vegas visitors and locals gathered below eager to enter the resort when the doors opened.
CityCenter is an urban metropolis on 67 acres between Bellagio and Monte Carlo resorts on the Las Vegas Strip.
A joint venture between MGM Mirage, and Infinity World Development Corp, a subsidiary of Dubai World, CityCenter features Aria, a 61-story, 4,004-room gaming resort; two non-gaming hotels, including Las Vegas’ first Mandarin Oriental and Vdara Hotel & Spa; Veer Towers, the development’s only residential buildings; and Crystals, a 500,000-square-foot retail and entertainment district. Vdara, Mandarin Oriental, Las Vegas and Veer Towers include roughly 2,400 residences total.
In addition, The Harmon, a 400-room luxury boutique hotel, is slated to open at CityCenter in late 2010.
CityCenter also features a resident Cirque du Soleil production celebrating the musical legacy of Elvis Presley; and a Fine Art Collection with works by acclaimed artists including Maya Lin, Jenny Holzer, Nancy Rubins, Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen, among others.
CityCenter is a design collaboration between MGM Mirage and eight top architectural firms, including Pelli Clarke Pelli, Kohn Pedersen Fox, Helmut Jahn, RV Architecture LLC led by Rafael Vinoly, Foster + Partners, Studio Daniel Libeskind, David Rockwell and Rockwell Group, and Gensler.
At the forefront of sustainability, CityCenter is one of the world’s largest green developments. Aria, Vdara, Crystals, Mandarin Oriental, Las Vegas and Veer Towers have all have received LEED Gold certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. This marks the highest LEED achievement for any hotel, retail district or residential development in Las Vegas. The Harmon also is pursuing LEED certification.

Carrie Underwood Play On Tour at Orleans Arena May 22

December 24th, 2009 | Category: Uncategorized

December 22, 2009
Las Vegas—One of country music’s most prolific and versatile power vocalists, Carrie Underwood, announced her new headline “Play On Tour” and a stop at the Orleans Arena May 22 with tickets for all shows going on sale next Friday, December 18. Underwood’s new headline tour kicks off March 11, 2010 with special guests Craig Morgan and Sons of Sylvia.
“I am getting so excited about next year as we are currently working through all the big plans for the tour,” says Underwood. “I cannot wait to perform new music and see familiar faces across the U.S. and Canada!”
Underwood spent this past year writing and recording for her new album Play On and performed a few select concerts. Her previous tour, 2008’s highly successful “Carnival Ride Tour” wrapped after 137 shows with 1.2 million fans in attendance.
Underwood recently launched her third album, Play On, at the No. 1 spot on both the country and pop album sales charts and has sold over 700,000 copies in 5 weeks. The release earned the highest first-week sales of the year for any solo country artist at that point and makes Carrie the only country act in Nielsen SoundScan history to achieve first-week sales of more than 300,000 units on each of their first three albums.
The feat also extends to American Idol, where the Season Four winner is the first contestant to launch three albums in a row above the 300K threshold, with her 2005 debut, “Some Hearts,” now seven-times Platinum, and 2007’s Carnival Ride currently triple-Platinum.
Underwood is a four-time GRAMMY winner, ACM Entertainer of the Year, a three-time CMA and three-time reigning ACM Female Vocalist winner, and a member of the Grand Ole Opry with total album sales now in excess of 11 million.
Craig Morgan is signed to Sony Entertainment Nashville’s BNA Records label, and released his fifth studio album, That’s Why, last fall.
His latest hit, the anthemic “Bonfire,” is currently Top 5 at country radio and headed for the top of the charts. Last year Morgan received one of country music’s highest honors – he was inducted into the membership of the Grand Ole Opry. Morgan has made more than 150 appearances on the Grand Ole Opry, and plays over 200 sold-out concerts a year.
He spent ten years on active duty in the U.S. Army before launching his music career, and makes a point to perform as often as possible at U.S. military installations both in the U.S. and abroad.
Sons of Sylvia are currently finishing up their debut album release on 19 Recordings/Interscope Records due out in 2010. Ashley, Austin, and Adam Clark (formerly known as The Clark Brothers who won FOX’s Next Great American Band) are longtime friends of Underwood, and the band is currently featured on her new album in a powerful collaboration called “What Can I Say.”
The show will begin at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale December 18, and are priced at $35.00, $45.00 and $55.00, inclusive of tax and fees. Tickets can be purchased at the Orleans Arena Box Office by calling 702.284.7777 or by visiting www.orleansarena.com .

Frankie Avalon, Bobby Rydell at Orleans Showroom

December 24th, 2009 | Category: Uncategorized

December 21, 2009
Las Vegas—Frankie Avalon and Bobby Rydell are universally known as two of the original teenage idols of early rock ‘n’ roll.
From January 15-17, Avalon and Rydell will bring their incomparable voices and generation-defining songs to the Orleans Showroom for a three-night engagement.
Childhood friends from the same south Philadelphia neighborhood, Avalon and Rydell first teamed up on a band called Rocco and the Saints, with Avalon on trumpet and Rydell on drums.
But it was their voices that would establish both performers as two of the biggest pop music stars of the pre-Beatles era.
Known as a child prodigy on the trumpet, Avalon was deemed a virtuoso by a member of the Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra, and made several guest appearances on The Perry Como Show and the Jackie Gleason Show.
But it was his 1957 single “Dee Dee Dinah” that established Avalon as a singing sensation, quickly selling more than a million copies. Numerous gold albums and hit singles followed, including “Venus,” “Bobby Sox to Stockings,” “Just Ask Your Heart,” and “Why.”
Avalon has some 30 motion picture credits, including the highly successful 1960s Beach Party film series, including such favorites as Grease, Beach Party, Muscle Beach Party, Beach Blanket Bingo, Dr. Goldfoot and the Bikini Machine, Bikini Beach and How to Stuff a Wild Bikini.
His talents as a dramatic actor are evidenced in The Alamo and Guns of the Timberland. Other film credits include Skidoo, I’ll Take Sweden and Casino, among others.
Not to be outdone by his friend, Rydell recorded his first single hit in 1959 with “Kissin’ Time.”
Over the next several years Rydell established himself as a teenage sensation with 34 Top 40 hits, including “We Got Love,” “ “Wild One,” “That Old Black Magic,” “I’ll Never Dance Again” and “Forget Him.” He was later recognized by Billboard as one of the Top Five Artists of the early ‘60s.
Beyond selling millions of records, Rydell enjoyed fame as a regular on such television shows as American Bandstand, The Red Skelton Show and The Milton Berle Show. Rydell was also featured in the classic film Bye Bye Birdie as Ann-Margret’s boyfriend, Hugo Peabody.
Tickets are now available starting from $29.95, plus tax. Showtime is 8 p.m. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Orleans Box Office at 702.365.7075 or visiting www.orleanscasino.com
