The Smothers Brothers Bring at The Orleans Nov. 5-8

October 31st, 2009 | Category: Uncategorized

October 25, 2009
Las Vegas—Comedy twosome the Smothers Brothers, who have been entertaining Las Vegas audiences for more than 45 years, bring their seamless blend of comedic and musical talents to The Orleans Showroom, November 5, 6, 7and 8.
The Smothers Brothers are one of the most enduring comic duos in show business history. Tom and Dick Smothers made their first professional appearance together at the Purple Onion in San Francisco in February 1959, and their first national television debut on The Tonight Show with Jack Paar in 1961.
Over the years they made many guest appearances with Johnny Carson and other variety shows of the era. In the early ‘60s, they recorded the first of 12 top-selling albums.
The comedic siblings may be best known for their sometimes controversial but always influential comedy series, The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour.
The show gave many writers and comedians their start, including Steve Martin. The Emmy-winning show also featured top musical acts of the day such as The Doors and The Who.
Following the cancellation of the show in 1969, the Smothers Brothers returned with new primetime comedy series and specials throughout the ‘70s and ‘80s. They continue to perform to sold-out audiences in Las Vegas and tour the country as the longest-lived comedy team in history.
Their continuous coast-to-coast concert tours often include performances with symphony orchestras. The ever-popular YoYo Man (Tom) and the Voice of Yo (Dick) travel and appear with the Smothers Brothers in concert.
Tickets are now available starting from $34.95, plus tax. Showtime is 8 p.m. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Box Office at 702.365.7075 or visiting www.orleanscasino.com

LAS VEGAS – October 5, 2009 –For the first time in seven years, The Cranberries original lineup headed by Dolores O’Riordan, embark on a live tour with a stop on Thursday, December 3, 2009 at The Pearl Concert Theater inside Palms Casino Resort.
“I’ve decided to reunite with my former band members in The Cranberries and we will be writing new songs and performing tracks off my new album as well as our greatest hits during the shows. I’d love to see you out there.” O’Riordan stated.
The tour is set to begin in Baltimore, MD on November 12 and is presented by Guesstimation; the party game where the closest guess wins.
In January, O’Riordan played a set at Dublin’s Trinity College with band members and brothers Noel and Mike Hogan to commemorate her being made an Honorary Patron of Trinity’s Philosophical Society. The performance was the first time the band members had seen each other since 2003.
Never officially broken up, the band instead has been on hiatus, and being in the same room and playing music together made them realize how much they had missed each other.
Led by “Linger,” The Cranberries debut album Everybody Else Is Doing It (1993), hit #1 in Britain. Follow-up No Need to Argue (1994) cemented the group’s popularity via such popular tracks as “Zombie,” “Ridiculous Thoughts,” and “Ode to My Family,” ultimately being certified 7x Platinum in the U.S. and 5x platinum in Europe (hitting # 1 in Germany, Austria, and Australia, and # 2 in the U.K.).
The Cranberries had four top 20 Billboard albums, eight hit singles and worldwide sales of more than 40 million records.

MORRISSEY at Hard Rock Vegas

October 31st, 2009 | Category: Uncategorized

October 25, 2009
WITH SPECIAL GUEST DOLL & THE KICKS
Friday, December 4 at 9pm
Tickets available at: Hard Rock Hotel Box Office, all Ticketmaster locations or at the Ticketmaster ad as right.
TICKETS START AT $39.50 (subject to service fees)
The Swords Tour: Morrissey
2009 has been quite a year for Morrissey. He’s toured relentlessly, performing to sold-out audiences around the world. His 9th studio album, Years Of Refusal, saw Morrissey tie his highest US chart debut on the Billboard 200, and he’s overseen upgraded and remastered versions of his ‘90s works Southpaw Grammar and Maladjusted. Crowning what is undoubtedly his most productive year since his solo career began in 1988, SWORDS compiles 18 select songs released as b-sides of his 13 hit singles from his last four albums.
As an artist who has always ensured his b-sides are of as outstanding quality as his singles and album tracks, SWORDS features some of Morrissey’s finest material. 12 songs are collaborations with guitarist Alain Whyte, the rest co-written with guitarists Boz Boorer and Jesse Tobias, and former keyboardist Michael Farrell.
In keeping with the three remarkable studio albums covered in his period – 2004’s You Are The Quarry, 2006’s Ringleader Of The Tormentors and Years Of Refusal – the music is powerful and adventurous.
The richness and expression of Morrissey’s voice has never been greater. With unmatchable style, wit and insight, truths beneath the surface are laid bare. There are moments of personal reflection; “Munich Air Disaster 1958,” for example, is a heartrending lament for the Manchester United players who died in the infamous plane crash, and for those who were left behind.
The live cover version of David Bowie’s 1973 song “Drive-In Saturday” reveals a little more of Morrissey’s own teenage self, with its lyrics of amorous confusion modified to rhapsodize over The New York Dolls rather than the Rolling Stones. Chrissie Hynde makes a rare appearance, singing backing vocals on “Shame is the Name.”
The album was compiled by Morrissey who is surely in the rudest of creative health.
They’re subtly assembled and sequenced –the feeling of approaching extinction in the beautiful “The Never-Played Symphonies” followed by a promise of a reunion in the afterlife on “Sweetie-Pie.” As Morrissey said of the Tour Of Refusal in March, “all of our answers will be in our songs.”
Initial quantities of SWORDS will come with a bonus disc featuring eight superb live performances recorded in Warsaw in July this year. This will include songs from Morrissey’s last two albums and 1994’s Vauxhall And I, plus The Smiths’ “You Just Haven’t Earned It Yet, Baby,” first heard on the group’s 1986 b-side collection The World Won’t Listen.
