Artist Info: Smooth jazz trumpet player Rick Braun got his start playing with several bands including Avenue Blue and War. He embarked on a solo career in 1993 with the release of Intimate Secrets. In 1995, Beat Street topped the contemporary jazz charts for a record-breaking 13 weeks, eventually becoming the No. 1 smooth jazz record of the year. Saxophone player Richard Elliot first found fame as a member of the funk band Tower of Power. Later, his solo career spawned hits such as “In the Groove,” “Take Your Time,” “Crush” and “Sly.”
With 24 solo albums between them, collaboration between Braun and Elliot was long overdue. In 2007, they joined together to release R n R and it became only a matter of time before South African wonder, Jonathan Butler jumped into the mix.
Butler, a talented singer, songwriter, guitarist and producer, learned at a young age what hardship was.
Against all odds, he signed with Jive Records and became the first black artist to have a song on a white radio station in South Africa, won a Sarie Award, the South African equivalent of the Grammy, and eventually moved to England.
Butler has produced multiple inspiring albums and is currently touring the U.S. playing in solo concerts and collaborating with Braun and Elliot in Jazz Attack.
