Nevada Tourism Autumn Sales
August 24, 2009
A Nevada Commission on Tourism (NCOT) sales team will launch a week-long autumn sales blitz Aug. 17 to stimulate travel from Chicago, Denver and Dallas — major markets that offer convenient air service to Nevada.
In particular, Denver offers air service to Ely, which benefits the eastern side of the state by reducing travel time for fly-drive visitors.
Accompanying the NCOT sales staff to Dallas and Denver will be industry sales partners representing the Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority and Pony Express Territory. Staff will join Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority representatives to promote Nevada tours at a Funjet Vacations event in Chicago.
The sales team will promote attractions throughout the state with a focus on golf, skiing and what’s new, such as the M Resort, Spa and Casino in Las Vegas;
the Legends at Sparks Marina shopping and entertainment center; a Marriott hotel under construction in Elko; and the Virginia & Truckee Railway tourist train running between Virginia City and Carson City.

The M Resort Spa Casino is the official production location for the sixth season of Bravo’s “Top Chef: Las Vegas,” which premieres Aug. 19 at 9 p.m. Eastern and Pacific Times. Contestants competed throughout the property during the filming process.

The series features 17 aspiring chefs who compete for their shot at culinary stardom and the chance to earn the title of Top Chef. Each episode holds two challenges for the chefs.
The first is a quick fire test of their basic abilities, and the second is a more involved elimination challenge designed to test the versatility and inventiveness of the chefs as they take on unique culinary trials such as working with unusual and exotic foods or catering for a range of demanding clients.
The challenges not only test their skills in the kitchen, but also uncover if they have the customer service, management and teamwork abilities required of a Top Chef.

PINK JEEP TOURS in Death Valley

PINK JEEP TOURS TO BECOME FIRST INDEPENDENT TOUR COMPANY
TO OFFER IN-PARK SERVICE IN DEATH VALLEY THIS FALL
LAS VEGAS – Beginning this September, Pink Jeep Tours will become the first independent tour company to offer in-park service at Death Valley.
These new tours will allow guests to visit the remote areas of the park too difficult for most vehicles to access. This is made possible by Pink Jeep Tours’ new Tour Trekker, the first-of-its-kind, high-end, state-of-the-art sightseeing vehicle. This comfortable 4-wheel drive vehicle has seating for up to 10 passengers so guests will truly enjoy this “small group” experience.
Hotel pick-up and drop-off will be available from most park hotels, including the 4-diamond Furnace Creek Inn, the Furnace Creek Ranch and the popular Stovepipe Wells Village. Tours will originate and conclude inside the park. To make this possible, Pink Jeep Tours has partnered with Xanterra Parks and Resorts, the nation’s largest park concessions management company and leader in park and resort hospitality.
Xanterra oversees and manages most resort, dining and retail offerings at Death Valley.
“Pink Jeep Tours has one of the most respected names in the tour business,” says Rich Jones, regional general manager, Xanterra Parks & Resorts.
“All too many past guests have not been able to visit some of the most famed attractions due to the type of vehicle they drive.
“We are pleased Pink Jeep Tours will soon provide an affordable way to see these attractions in 4-wheel luxury.”
Once inside the park, guests can visit secluded areas such as Racetrack Playa, famous for its “mysterious sliding rocks” that move across the dry lake bed on their own; Titus Canyon with its panoramic views at Red Pass and sheer towering walls in the canyon “narrows”; Charcoal kilns and Mosaic Canyon with its smooth, polished marble walls and West Side Road offering views of the valley most visitors rarely see. In addition, guests can also join Pink Jeep’s classic Death Valley tour when it arrives from Las Vegas. This 2-hour segment visits Badwater Basin, Devil’s Golf Course, Zabriskie Point and Artist’s Palette.
“Demand is there and we predict fall will be busy,” says Alix Reed, general manager, Pink Jeep Tours. “This is a brand new way for visitors to experience areas of Death Valley they wouldn’t otherwise be able to see and will be able to do so in an exciting, yet educational way thanks to our highly-trained guides.”
Covering nearly 3.3 million acres, Death Valley is the largest National Park in the lower 48 contiguous states. Guests will enjoy the dramatic contrast between Telescope Peak (elev. 11,049 feet) and Badwater Basin (282 feet below sea level).
Tour prices range from $65 to $165.

Don Rickles at The Orleans Showroom
August 5, 2009
August 21-23
Las Vegas—Legendary comedian Don Rickles, “Mr. Warmth,” who first starred as a Las Vegas headliner more than 50 years ago, brings his one-of-a-kind humor to The Orleans Showroom, August 21, 22 and 23.
Rickles took his first step toward national fame in 1957 when Frank Sinatra wandered into the small Hollywood nightclub where Rickles was performing. The still-unknown Rickles eyed Sinatra and said,
“I just saw your movie, The Pride and the Passion, and I want to tell you, the cannon’s acting was great. And, make yourself at home, Frank. Hit somebody.”
Sinatra doubled up laughing and became one of Rickles’ biggest boosters among Hollywood celebrities. Rickles soon became the “in” comic among Hollywood stars, who flocked to his nightclub engagements to become the targets of his insults.
As a star-struck kid in New York City, Rickles aspired to share the big screen with such greats as Clark Gable and James Cagney. His wish came true in 1958 when he appeared in Run Silent Run Deep, starring Clark Gable. Rickles went on to receive critical praise for his villainous performance in The Rat Race in 1960.
During a period between acting assignments, Rickles tried and succeeded at stand-up comedy. Audiences laughed harder at his impromptu insults than at his prepared material, and Rickles’ legend as the king of insult comics was born.
Rickles has also starred in films and television shows, including Casino, Kelly’s Heroes, Gilligan’s Island, The Andy Griffith Show, Get Smart, Toy Story and Toy Story 2, and most recently, the CBS hit series The Unit. Rickles won two Primetime Emmy Awards, including the 2008 HBO special Mr. Warmth: The Don Rickles Project for Best Individual Performance in a Variety or Musical.
Tickets are now available starting from $74.95, plus tax. Showtime is 8 p.m. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Box Office at 702.365.7075 or visiting www.orleanscasino.com
