Dana Carvey at The Orleans

July 27th, 2009 | Category: Uncategorized

July 21, 2009
Renowned Comedian, Impersonator Dana Carvey Coming to The Orleans Showroom July 24-27
Las Vegas—Since bursting onto the national scene on Saturday Night Live in 1986, Dana Carvey has entertained millions with his uncanny impersonations of political leaders, entertainers and celebrities. From July 24-26, Carvey will be bringing his incomparable act to the Orleans Showroom for a three-evening engagement. All shows will begin at 8 p.m.
Carvey’s comedic career dates back to his days as a student at San Francisco State University, where he won San Francisco’s Stand-Up Comedy Competition. But it was NBC’s SNL that made Carvey into a household name. After joining the SNL cast for the 1986-87 season, Carvey gained fame for a wide stable of characters, including “Church Lady,” “Hanz” (of “Hanz & Franz), “Grumpy Old Man,” and Garth Algar, the faithful sidekick of Wayne Campbell on “Wayne’s World.” Carvey was legendary for his impersonations of numerous real-world figures as well, particularly former President George H.W. Bush and former presidential candidate Ross Perot.
In 1992, Carvey teamed up with SNL colleague Mike Myers on Wayne’s World, the movie adaptation of their popular skit. The film was a smash success, grossing more than $160 million, and led to the 1993 sequel, Wayne’s World 2. Carvey would go on to appear in several additional movies, including The Road to Wellville and Clean Slate.
After leaving SNL in 1992, Carvey appeared on a number of television specials. He hosted the 1992 MTV Music Awards, and appeared on several comedy specials, most recently in 2008 on HBO’s Dana Carvey: Squatting Monkeys Tell No Lies.
Carvey was awarded an Emmy in 1993 for Outstanding Individual Performance in a Variety or Music Program, and received five other Emmy nominations throughout his career. He was also named Television’s Funniest Supporting Male for 1990-91, and was recognized by Comedy Central as one of the top 100 stand-up acts of all time.

Robert Dubac’s comedy in Vegas

July 27th, 2009 | Category: Uncategorized

July 21, 2009
Robert Dubac’s The Male Intellect: An Oxymoron? Brings Blend of Theater and Comedy to the Suncoast Showroom July 31 – August 2
Las Vegas—During a limited engagement, actor and writer Robert Dubac ransacks his brain to answer the age-old question, “What do women want?” in Robert Dubac’s The Male Intellect: An Oxymoron?, coming to the Suncoast Showroom July 31 – August 2.
As seen on Late Show with David Letterman, this one-man show’s clever combination of theater and stand-up comedy pinpoints the differences between the sexes and then celebrates them with 90 minutes of non-stop laughter. It is a multi-character comedy with Dubac playing all the roles.
When the show opens, the audience meets “Bobby” in a confused state. Having found the girl of his dreams and having asked her to marry him, she gently dumps him. Unable to determine why, Bobby recalls some not-so-wise but nevertheless hilarious advice he received growing up with five chauvinistic mentors. Dubac then seamlessly transforms himself into five alter egos, each offering misguided advice. Bobby realizes the advice is mostly worthless, but with help from his feminine side he discovers the real answer to, “What do women want?” And he does it all while drinking a beer.
Having toured the country for 10 years, Robert Dubac’s The Male Intellect: An Oxymoron?, produced by Franzblau Media Inc., has been hailed by critics from coast to coast. The Boston Globe proclaims, “Robert Dubac is talented, entertaining and very funny!” Los Angeles Times says, “The show elicits big laughs from both sexes in waves of treble and bass.”
Dubac began performing at an early age, and by 14 had a magic act that took him from his home city of Atlanta to gigs up and down the East Coast. He studied drama while his act evolved into a stand-up comedy routine and has toured with such greats as Kenny Loggins, Linda Ronstadt and Jimmy Buffett. Dubac worked in films, sitcoms and daytime television before creating his hit show Robert Dubac’s The Male Intellect: An Oxymoron? In 2006 Dubac launched the show’s sequel, Robert Dubac’s Male Intellect: The 2nd Coming!
Tickets are now available at $19.95, plus tax. Showtime is 8 p.m. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Box Office at 702.636.7075 or visiting www.suncoastcasino.com

Stay Cool in Vegas when it’s 100 Degrees‏

July 27th, 2009 | Category: Uncategorized

July 22, 2009
For years, Vegas locals have conquered the sizzling heat of the desert and know how to chill out. Here is the real inside scoop on how to stay cool and beat the heat.
Feel the Wind in Your Hair, Without the Sweat
Glide, fall, zoom, curve, without feeling the heat of an outdoor theme park by riding indoors. The Circus Circus Adventuredome, an almost paradoxical indoor theme park, is encased in a five-and-a-half acre glass covering and promises to captivate thrill-seekers.
Burn Rubber, Not Skin
Burn rubber, not skin on the indoor track at Pole Position Raceway, where the adrenaline is hot and temperatures are cool. Located across the street from the Palms Hotel, this raceway boasts electric powered karts that emit no exhaust and run up to 45 miles-per-hour.
Gamble the Cool Way
Bikini Blackjack is the new and improved way to keep cool and gamble at the same time! Instead of traditional gambling indoors with blasting air-conditioners, hotels like The Stratosphere and The Hard Rock are now bringing the gambling to you, poolside. (Just don’t forget to coat on the sunscreen and stay in the shade!)
Feel the Cool Breeze of Nighttime – Even at Noon
Get all the romance and relaxation of a starry sky without actually going outside. The Rasul Chamber at Canyon Ranch SpaClub is an herbal and therapeutic chamber built with a faux starlit sky from which rain falls as the treatment comes to a close. This treatment not only promises to make your skin glow, it also serves as the perfect alternative to the great outdoors.
Liquid Cool
32°, the frozen drink bar at the MGM is the ultimate thirst quencher. While Vegas is home to numerous drink spots, 32° is the only place to get the crazy cool bing cherry daiquiri or the frozen Cable Car, and the perfect place to lay low. Load up on the liquids (virgin or alcoholic) at one of the hundreds of bars listed on Vegas.com’s nightlife section.
Refreshing Snacks
Cool down with everyone’s favorite frozen treat – ice cream. No matter where you are in Vegas, there’s an ice-cream shop nearby.
Try the new Serendipity 3 at Caesars for their Frrrozen Hot Chocolate, Café Gelato at Bellagio for an Italian version of the delicious treat, or Kate’s Korner at Suncoast, where some nights they serve treats until 1:30 a.m.!

Gladys Knight at Orleans Vegas

July 27th, 2009 | Category: Uncategorized

July 23, 2009
August 7-9
Las Vegas—The legendary “Empress of Soul,” Gladys Knight has had a deep influence on the music world throughout her five-decade career. From August 7-9, Knight will be bringing her one-of-a-kind performance to The Orleans Showroom.
Gladys Knight made her solo singing debut at the age of four in a Baptist church in Atlanta. In 1952, shortly after winning a prize for her performance on the televised Ted Mack Amateur Hour, eight-year old Gladys formed The Pips with her brother, sister and two cousins. With young Gladys supplying the throaty vocals and The Pips providing impressive harmonies and graceful choreography, the group went on to achieve icon status, recording some of the most memorable songs of the ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s.
Top 20 hits like “Every Beat of My Heart,” “Letter Full of Tears,” “I Heard It Through the Grapevine” and “If I Were Your Woman,” set the stage for an amazing run in the mid-‘70s. Top 10 gold-certified singles such as “Neither One of Us (Wants to be the First to Say Good-bye),” “I Have Got to Use My Imagination,” “Best Thing to Ever Happen to Me” and the No. 1 smash-hit “Midnight Train to Georgia” established Gladys Knight and The Pips as the premier pop/R&B vocal ensemble in the world.
Recording nine solo albums over the years, and teaming with such artists as Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Dionne Warwick, Kenny Rogers and Patti LaBelle, Knight has topped the charts and enjoyed numerous No. 1 hits. In addition to her vocal talent, Knight’s involvement in other creative undertakings, business adventures and humanitarian activities has been extensive and has brought her widespread honors and acclimation.
In 1986, she produced and starred in the Cable Ace Award-winning Sisters in the Name of Love, an HBO special co-starring Dionne Warwick and Patti LaBelle. Knight recorded the title theme for the James Bond movie License to Kill in the late ‘80s. In 1999, she completed a starring run on Broadway in the small musical hit Smokey Joe’s Café. Knight also managed to find time to publish her autobiography entitled, Between Each Line of Pain and Glory.
Tickets are now available starting from $74.95, plus tax. Showtime is 8 p.m. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Box Office at 702.365.7075 or visiting www.orleanscasino.com
