High-Speed Rail Extended from L.A. to Las Vegas

July 18th, 2009 | Category: Uncategorized

July 10, 2009
\An agreement between California and Nevada to extend the California High-Speed Rail Corridor from the Los Angeles area to Las Vegas was announced last week by U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, as well as key members of the Nevada labor community, business leaders and other elected officials.
“The extension of the California corridor is another great example of regional cooperation, which will be critical to transforming travel in America and the creation of a national system of high-speed rail lines,” LaHood said.
“We will continue to encourage new and innovative partnerships like this one. We believe that the development of regional high-speed passenger rail systems will create jobs, spur economic development and provide positive environmental benefits for all Americans.”
“Today we’ve taken a giant step towards strengthening Nevada’s economy,” Reid said. “High-speed rail not only provides a much needed means of transportation that will reduce congestion on I-15, but it will create jobs at a time when Nevada needs them the most, increase tourism and reduce our reliance on foreign oil.”
In April, President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and LaHood announced the effort to transform the nation’s transportation system by developing rail infrastructure and launching high-speed passenger rail services in 100- to 600-mile corridors that connect U.S. communities.
The Obama Administration is moving fast to put in place this agenda. Congress passed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), which included an $8 billion High-Speed Intercity Passenger Rail (HSIPR) grant program.
Obama has proposed a continuing $1 billion annual investment in high-speed rail. The Department of Transportation (DOT) has issued a strategic plan for high-speed rail and recently announced guidelines for states and groups of states to apply for the economic recovery funds. The DOT expects to announce the first round of merit-based grants in the fall.

PEEPSHOW at Planet Hollywood

July 18th, 2009 | Category: Uncategorized

July 15, 2009
Review by Linda Lane, Jetsetters Magazine Entertainment Editor
At long last Las Vegas has a show that harks back to the glorious days of beautiful, bawdy productions that left audiences glowing with steamy reverie. PEEPSHOW starring Holly Madison, the petite, bosomy blond, Hugh Hefner’s main squeeze on The Girls Next Door, and a contender on Dancing With The Stars is a crowd pleaser. The night I saw Peepshow at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino, both men and women became part of the interactive fairy tale that marries Broadway dancers with naked showgirls, burlesque and serious, belting rock n’ roll.
Peepshow was created by Jerry Mitchell, a Tony Award winning director and choreographer who, along with a team of equally brilliant theatrical specialists has accomplished what few shows have done since Cirque de Soleil became the Strip’s primary source of entertainment. When considering PEEPSHOW think more along the lines of lounge meets Broadway.
The show opened with Mel B. – Melanie “Scary Spice” Brown – and Kelly Monaco. After their 90 day contract was up Holly Madison dawned the looking for love Little Bo Peep costume and Shoshana Bean, a Broadway dynamo who played Elphaba in Wicked took the reins. The original cast of singers and dancers – which includes a spectacular pole dancing sequence – were already in place.
Tickets range from $65 to $100 plus tax.
The VIP option offers cabaret seating at the foot of the stage along with your choice of a double complimentary cocktail for $165 per ticket.
A bottle service upgrade with top shelf spirits is now available for an additional $55.
Reminiscent of the good old Rat Pack days when Vegas headliners were tossed bras and panties and room keys, Peepshow delivers an evening of great entertainment. Audience members are ushered into a large showroom with tables near the stage and theater seating above.
There is no playbill. Sexy cocktail waitress and camera girls circulate, and once the audience is ready to party the show begins. The use of black and white footage through a keyhole establishes old Hollywood glamour.
It sets the tone for Holly’s surreal transition from businesswoman to Bo Peep. Her faithful, adorable dog turns into a male dancer.
Together the team ventures into and out of classic fairy tales that are designed to rev the audience’s motor. And they do!
The show itself is the star.
The singers and dancers – pros from Broadway, film and television – the costumes – lots of pasties – and undulating male musculature take a saddle swing to new heights.
Shoshana Bean delivers song after song with sultry energy and know-how.
Her credits include singing back up for Michael Jackson. Madison, on the other hand is still getting comfortable with her role. Playing herself on The Girls Next Door encompassed an entirely different set of disciplines.
On film, Holly is a stunner, and given the sweetness of her personality and the exposure of her famous breasts the audience doesn’t expect her to be Liza Minnelli.
They’re simply happy that she’s there – in the flesh – romping from Little Red Riding Hood to Goldie Locks. The adoration and applause are genuine.
The Peepshow website offers a Meet and Greet Holly Madison: Meet Holly in person with this exclusive add-on to your PEEPSHOW ticket. Post-show meet and greet includes a Champagne toast with Holly, an Autographed photo of Holly and the opportunity to take your own picture with Holly! Hurry! Space is limited. Inquire at the Peepshow box office for details. Wow! Talk about smart marketing!
As far as I’m concerned, if you’re an adult and you want to see an adult show in Las Vegas, Peepshow is my number one pick. It’s fun, flamboyant, and there’s definitely something exciting for everyone.
PEEPSHOW plays Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday at 9 pm. Friday and Saturday there are two performances: 8 and 10:30 pm. There are three ways to purchase tickets: online: www.ticketmaster.com, by phone: 800-745-3000, or in person at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino at the CHI Showroom box office located on the mezzanine level overlooking the casino floor.

In 1992, the band released its second studio album WildLife, which reached platinum status and featured the hit songs “Real Love,” “WildLife” and “Days Gone By.” For the remainder of the ’90s, Slaughter would release four more albums in addition to touring the U.S. and Japan. Nashville Unplugged: The Story Behind the Song

July 18th, 2009 | Category: Uncategorized

July 17, 2009
Featuring Bobby Pinson along with hosts Brian McComas and Aaron Benward
Venue: Ovation at Green Valley Ranch
Genre: Country
Date: Saturday, July 25, 2009
Doors at 7:15 p.m. featuring “Songs from a Hat”
Show at 8 p.m.
Ticket Prices: FREE
Aptly called Nashville Unplugged, this show is based on the concept of getting to know what’s behind the song, similar to the famed Bluebird Café in Nashville.
Each month will feature a songwriter who will go through the process of what went into writing about a particular song and perform it at the show. July’s songwriter is Bobby Pinson, who co-wrote Toby Keith’s “She Never Cried in Front of Me,” and Sugarland’s “All I Wanna Do” and “Already Gone,” among others.
Each month is hosted by singer/songwriters Brian McComas who wrote and sang “99.9% Sure (I’ve Never Been Here Before)” and Aaron Benward of Blue County who wrote and sang “Good Little Girls.”
Another fun aspect of Nashville Unplugged is “Songs from a Hat” where guests that arrive between 7:15 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. can make up a title to a song and put that in a hat.
The songwriters will pick one title from that hat and then actually pen a song throughout the course of the evening, to be performed at the end.
Must be 21 years and older
Tickets can be purchased at any Station Casinos Reward Center, The Fiestas and The Galleria Mall or by calling (702) 547-5300 or log onto www.stationcasinos.com
