Las Vegas, NV – How often do you get to rub elbows – literally – with some of the biggest names in Hollywood and in sports and do it in front of a national television audience on ESPN? Created by Oscar nominee Don Cheadle and Celebrity Apprentice star and WSOP bracelet winner Annie Duke, the Ante Up for Africa tournament will begin at 2 p.m. on July 2nd at the Rio® All-Suite Hotel & Casino, home of the 40th Annual World Series of Poker (WSOP). To date, Ante Up For Africa has raised close to $2 million for the cause.
This year Ante Up For Africa will host an exclusive party for the players and stars at PURE, one of Vegas’ hottest night clubs. The 3rd Annual Ante Up for Africa Tournament will be televised on ESPN on Tuesday, August 11 from 8-10 PM ET.
“It is an honor and very exciting to have ESPN turn the cameras on for our event,” said Annie Duke. “This will make great strides in raising awareness about this ongoing crisis.”

“I am very pleased that we have raised almost 2 million to date and appreciative of everyone who has participated and donated to help us on our mission of bringing the plight of the refugees of Darfur to the forefront of people’s minds”, said Cheadle.
This event, as is every World Series of Poker tournament, is open to the public for viewing and admission is free. The event will take place in the famed Amazon Ballroom in the Rio Convention Center, just one day prior to the start of the WSOP Main Event, the game’s most prestigious event.
“We are eagerly anticipating the 3rd annual Ante Up For Africa Celebrity-Charity poker tournament,” said World Series of Poker Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack. “We commend the work Don and Annie are doing on behalf of this charity and are excited to partner with them again for what is the most fun-filled day at the World Series of Poker.”
Cheadle, an accomplished poker player, and Duke, who has more than $4 million in tournament winnings, are committed to raising both public awareness about the tragedy in Darfur and funds to aid its victims. As the world’s richest sporting event, the WSOP awarded more than $180 million in 2008 and attracted participants from a record 124 nations.
Nevada Gaming laws prohibit money being given directly from the prize pool to the charity. Accordingly, in the previous events, many of the in the money finishers volunteered to donate half of their winnings to the charity and Ante Up for Africa encourages participants to do the same this year.

Vegas Reggae in the Desert

May 18th, 2009 | Category: Uncategorized

May 17, 2009
Ky-Mani Marley headlines legendary artists in concert June 13
LAS VEGAS – The eighth annual Reggae in the Desert concert returns with a collection of well-known reggae acts including Ky-Mani Marley, Gregory Isaacs, Third World, Yellowman, One Pin Short and Jah Fusion. DJ Rhamma will spin tunes throughout the day and in between sets. Steve Edwards is the host for the event.
The concert is set for Saturday, June 13 at the Clark County Government Center Amphitheater, 500 S. Grand Central Parkway in downtown Las Vegas. Doors open at 2 p.m. Tickets are $22 in advance and $25 the day of the show.
Tickets are on sale at the Ticketmaster banner at right.
Ky-Mani Marley, the second youngest of Bob Marley’s 11 children, carries on his father’s tradition of timeless, brilliant and message-filled music in order to inspire and entertain.
The singer, songwriter and guitarist first appeared as a musician in 1996 at the age of 20 when he recorded Like Father Like Son, an album featuring cover versions of his father’s hits. In 2001, his album Many More Roads was nominated for a Grammy in the Best Reggae Album category. His more recent album Radio was released in 2007.
Gregory Isaacs has been an important member of the reggae community for three decades. Born in Jamaica in 1950, Isaacs began his career by working with numerous producers and artists. After owning his own label and shop in Jamaica, Isaacs went on the road and recorded extensively, making a name for himself in the ’70s and ’80s. In 2008, Isaacs released the studio album Brand New Me after nearly 40 years as a recording artist to much reggae acclaim.
Third World, which last played this event in 2007, was conceived in 1973 by teenage guitarist, cellist and singer Stephen “Cat” Coore, who left the Inner Circle Band to start his own group with a fellow musician.
Just a year after the group’s formation, it opened for the Jackson Five. The group debuted on vinyl in 1976 with Satta Amasa Gana and followed it with 96 Degrees in the Shade in 1977.
Since then, the group has welcomed new members and said goodbye to departing musicians, but the sound has remained the same.
For more than 30 years, the group has traveled the world spreading peace, love and unity and has released 22 albums.
As an albino, Yellowman had a rocky start in life and the music industry. Yellowman was deserted by his parents, shunned at stage shows for his appearance and told he only had three years to live.
That was 1983. He turned to music for comfort and became one of the most well-known dancehall artists in the world.
Aside from his own music, he has partnered with rap artists such as Run DMC, NWA, Public Enemy and Doug E. Fresh. He has more than 45 recordings and has appeared on more than 88 compilation albums.
Locals One Pin Short and Jah Fusion also are scheduled to perform along with DJ Ramma. DJ Ramma, also know as Suppa Kirk, began emceeing alongside some of Los Angeles’ best deejays more than two decades. Hailing from Belize, DJ Ramma moved to the Las Vegas Valley in 1995 and has played a key role in bringing reggae vibes to the community. He has performed at numerous spots around town and is celebrating his sixth year as a Reggae in the Desert performer.
Blankets for lawn seating are permitted. Vendors in the Caribbean Islands Vendor Village will have Reggae-style items, exhibits, food and beverages as well as other fare. Domestic and imported beers will be available.
There will be no re-entry, and there will be ATM’s on site.
Sponsors include Miller Lite, Miller Chill, CW Las Vegas, MY LV TV, United Family of Car Dealerships, Mix 94.1, Area 107.9, Point 97.1 and Hot 97.5FM.

Las Vegas—KCYE Coyote Country and the Orleans Arena are teaming up to bring CountryFest — featuring Tracy Lawrence, Tracy Byrd, Love and Theft and Bomshel — to the Orleans Arena August 29, starting at 8 p.m.
Over the years, Tracy Lawrence has received widespread recognition and numerous accolades for his outstanding vocal talent. Lawrence was named Billboard’s Top New Male Vocalist in 1992, and claimed the coveted Academy of Country Music’s Top New Male Vocalist top spot just a year later. Lawrence also earned the Country Weekly Golden Pick Awards’ Video Artist of the Year award in 1995 and its Editor’s Choice Platinum Pick crown in 1996, for songs such as “Find Out Who Your Friends Are,” “Paint Me A Birmingham,” and “Lessons Learned.”
Tracy Byrd’s hits are well known among legions of country music fans and routinely spun by radio programmers from coast to coast. UK DANCE PHENOM AT HARD ROCK HOTEL & CASINO

May 18th, 2009 | Category: Uncategorized

May 17, 2009
AUGUST 6
(Las Vegas, NV)-UK dance band Underworld will be bringing their high energy show across the pond this summer to play The new Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on August 6.
An incredible 27 years after their birth in Romford, Essex as a trio and 15 years after they pressed up their debut single,
Rick Smith and Karl Hyde are still enjoying the ride, grinning like kids as new vistas unfold before them. What has distinguished them over the years is their ability to instill a deep soulfulness and empathetic humanity into even the most anthemic club banger.
They fuse together elements of techno, dub, trance, Krautrock, drum ’n’ bass, ambient house and even blues, complementing and contrasting not only sounds, but emotions, too, tying them together with Hyde’s frequently prescient, often opaque but always strikingly poetic lyrics.
The colossal ‘Born Slippy’ thus packed a heart-rending existential ache along with that thrilling, jackhammer pulse and – immortalized as it was in Danny Boyle’s Zeitgeist-busting movie ‘Trainspotting’ – became a soundtrack for a generation.
If there’s a single explanation for Underworld’s longevity and fecund creativity, it’s their appetite for change and, over the past years, they’ve been busy breaking acres of fresh artistic ground, much of it in cyberspace.
In November 2005, Smith and Hyde launched their digital ‘Riverrun’ project, delivering on-line brand new music direct to their fans, thus short-circuiting the relentless write/record/tour/promote system and allowing them to respond much quicker to their creative moods.
“This renewed vigour we’ve felt in the past four or five years has surfaced in material that hasn’t really appeared over the commercial parapet,” Smith explains, “but what we’re most interested in doing – beyond just ‘Oblivion With Bells’ – is simply marking our ongoing journey.
Big conclusions aren’t what we’re aiming for; we’re interested in expressing how we feel at one particular time and that in no way necessarily says that’s where we’re going. It just says that’s where we’re at, at the moment. I do think large aspects of the new album sound like two guys who’ve had great experiences with film music, who have a passion for film and travelling and for ambient, more gentle and perhaps what was less generally understood as ‘an Underworld sound’ – which was uplifting, anthemic, banging and very obviously dance oriented.”
Tickets are available at the Hard Rock Hotel Box Office, at the Ticketmaster banner above.
Tickets are $39.50 and are subject to service fees.
