Downtown Hoedown at Fremont Street Experience

October 31, 2008 Do Si Don’t Miss the 22nd AnnualLAS VEGAS – The Fremont Street Experience is going country for the kickoff party for the National Finals Rodeo on Wednesday, December 3. The stompin’ shindig will feature free live concerts and plenty of two-steppin’ fun.

The 22nd Annual Downtown Hoedown brings a rollicking entertainment lineup to Fremont Street with top country music talents Lady Antebellum, Heidi Newfield, The Road Hammers and Mark Chesnutt.

The performance schedule is as follows:

1st Street Stage

Lady Antebellum, 6-8 p.m.
Heidi Newfield, 9-11p.m.

3rd Street Stage

The Road Hammers, 6-8 p.m.
Mark Chesnutt, 9-11 p.m.

In the summer of 2006, Hillary Scott, Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood formed the band Lady Antebellum. Since the new group debuted, they’ve earned Top New Group at the 2008 Academy of Country Music Awards (ACM) and have continued to blow country music fans away with their one-of-a-kind vocal chemistry. Their hit single, “Love Don’t Live Here” debuted on the Top 5 Hot Country Songs on the Billboard Charts.

Former member of Trick Pony and winner of an ACM Best New Artist Award, now solo-artist Heidi Newfield brings her explosive voice and rambunctious stage antics to the country music scene. In 2008, Newfield debuted her solo album, “What Am I Waiting For?” and for twelve weeks her hit single, “Johnny & June” reached the Top 15 on the Billboard Hot Country Charts.

Joined together from CMT Canada’s “Making the Band” reality show, Clayton Bellemy, Chris Byrne and Corbett Frasz formed The Road Hammers and found quick success with fans combining soulful country with edgy rock ‘n roll. The band’s self-titled debut album ascended to the upper reaches of the Canadian country charts, with four songs “East Bound and Down,” “Nashville Bound,” “Girl On the Billboard” and “I’m a Road Hammer” hitting the Top 10.

Since 1989, Mark Chesnutt has been doing what he loves best – “…to sing country music for true blue country fans.” One of Billboards Ten Most-Played Radio Artists of the ‘90s, Chesnutt lives for performing on stage to his fans and creating music with hits like “Bubba Shot the Jukebox” and “I Don’t Want to Miss A Thing.” He has been on tour since 1990 and brings his country hits alive with his stage presence.

The Downtown Hoedown starts kickin’ at 6 pm on Wednesday, December 3. All are invited to mosey on downtown and enjoy the feel-good sounds of country music among the iconic neon lights of the Fremont Street Experience. All concerts are free and open to the public and parking is available at the Fremont Street Experience parking garage located on the corner of Carson and 4th Streets.

The Fremont Street Experience is a five-block entertainment complex located in historical downtown Las Vegas. In 1995, Fremont Street was closed to vehicular traffic and a giant screen was suspended 90-feet over the street to display spectacular light and sound shows on its 1,500 foot surface. The 12.5 million lights of the Viva Vision screen dazzle 365 nights a year and make the Fremont Street Experience a one-of-a-kind venue. With direct pedestrian access to 10 casinos, more than 60 restaurants, specialty retail and free nightly entertainment, the Fremont Street Experience attracts millions of annual visitors.

National Collegiate Golf Championship in Las Vegas

October 31, 2008   The National Collegiate Golf Championship (NCGC) will be played at the Silverstone Golf Course in Las Vegas, November 7-9, 2008, and for the first time, Fox Sports will be there to cover the event. Players compete in one of three divisions: Student, Faculty/Staff, or Alumni/Community. To qualify, players must participate in a Local Qualifying Tournament hosted by one of over 55 colleges and universities across the country. The NCGC Tournament is the largest collegiate golf tournament ever, and is designed for non-NCAA student athletes.
The Collegiate Golf Alliance (CGA) has organized and developed the tournament, and the Local Qualifying tournaments, for over 8 years. CGA works with intramural departments at colleges and universities across the country to enhance and improve collegiate golf programming. “We are very excited about the growth and direction of the NCGC program. As more schools offer the opportunity to Students, Staff and Alumni to participate and compete, the thrill of representing your university is now available to thousands of participants. With the National Championship now being covered by Fox Sports West, our reach and exposure should be outstanding” Stated CGA’s President and CEO Mike Munson.
Along with LQ tournaments, CGA is equipped to assist your school in developing and promoting student/faculty golf clubs, and in hosting On-Campus Expos with our sponsors setting up and running a mini-golf course on your campus complete with water hazards and unique pin placement. These expos not only create interest and excitement in the game of golf, but also give students another way to be involved.
CGA is supported by The PGA of America, and our sponsors include Southwest Airlines, Almost Golf, Red Bull, Cutter and Buck, FRS Healthy Energy, and Matrix.
Students look forward to The National Collegiate Golf Championship every year, and this year the chance to sink that winning putt on Fox Sports will be a dream for all golfers. To get your school involved, please visit us at www.cgagolflinks.com or write us at info@cgagolflinks.com
