Las Vegas Mixes It Up With Paul Oakenfold Residency
September 11, 2008 on 2:09 pm | In Gaming Resorts, Hotels, Las Vegas, Webbandstand | âPaul Oakenfold Presents: Perfecto Las Vegasâ every Saturday night
at Rain NightclubLas Vegas based N9NE Group and Palms Casino Resort proudly announce Paul Oakenfold, one of the worldâs leading DJs, to hold court at Rain Nightclub beginning this Autumn in his first Resident DJ position in the United States. âPaul Oakenfold Presents: Perfecto Las Vegasâ was conceptualised specifically for Rain Nightclub, the legendary 25,000 square-foot nightclub and concert venue at the Palms Casino Resort known for its special effects and international headliner acts.
Oakenfoldâs residency further strengthens Las Vegasâ reputation as the entertainment capital of the world. The city has a legendary history of wowing audiences with everything from innovative new productions to traditional crooners. A new era of entertainment has evolved in recent years as Las Vegas strives to stay one step ahead of other entertainment destinations by electrifying audiences with big-name headliners and awe-inspiring spectaculars. Oakenfold will be in good company, joining other Las Vegas based entertainment extravaganzas including Bette Midlerâs The Showgirl Must Go On and the Cher Las Vegas show at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace; Phantom â The Las Vegas Spectacular at The Venetian; The Beatles LOVE by Cirque du Soleil at The Mirage.
Named after his label, Perfecto Records, the show will take place every Saturday continuing throughout Summer 2009.
Oakenfold is scheduled to perform at 26 of the show dates with other internationally-acclaimed DJs making cameos in his absence, including Carl Cox, Paul van Dyk and Felix da Housecat. Perfecto Las Vegas, a collaboration between Paul Oakenfold and award-winning VJ and director, Vello Virkhaus, will feature a myriad of cutting-edge design and visual art elements including full audio visual system integration, multi-screen content and eye popping computer graphics. âThis will be the most extravagant nightlife experience Las Vegas has ever seen,â says N9NE Group Vice President Michael Fuller. âIt will include everything from video and audio entertainment to performance artists and props.â
Oakenfoldâs residency starts immediately following the completion of his global âGreatest Hits & Remixes Tour,â a 20-selection strong collection of his seminal dance recordings and remixes that celebrates the career of an artist whose combined releases have totaled almost two million in sales in the U.S. alone. Oakenfold is a two-time GRAMMY nominee, and his 2004 album âAnother Worldâ remains the best selling dance album of all time. Oakenfold has previously held DJ residencies at Cream Nightclub and Home @ Leicester Square in the U.K.
The N9NE Groupâs dedication to diversifying the types of music played at its venues was a key factor in Oakenfoldâs decision to sign on as Resident DJ of Rain Nightclub.
âThere is nowhere in America other than Las Vegas that I would want to be a resident DJ,â Oakenfold says. âIt is the worldâs oyster, and the Perfecto nights at Rain Nightclub are going to take clubbing to a whole new level.â
Rain Nightclub is located on the casino level of the Palms Casino Resort at 4321 W. Flamingo Road and features the N9NE Groupâs signature VIP amenities including state-of-the-art sound, lighting, pyrotechnics, and ultra-premium bottle service. THE OSMONDS at the ORLEANS SHOWROOM
September 11, 2008 on 2:15 pm | In Gaming Resorts, Las Vegas, Webbandstand | SEPTEMBER 26TH â 28TH 2008. The Osmond Brothers have been performing in front of worldwide audiences for 50 years. They are one of the most well-known entertainment families in the world and they continue to thrill millions of people with their brand of entertainment.
During the 60âs era of career growth and development, the Osmonds not only grew up, they grew in scope. They mastered 28 musical instruments, perfected their dance, and learned to handle an audience like pros. By 1970, the Osmonds were perfect candidates for the teenage recording market.
In 1971, combined sales from the Osmond Brothersâ and Donnyâs releases garnished nine gold records â a total that exceeds the Beatlesâ and Elvisâ highest single year collection of gold discs. Since embarking on their prestigious recording career, the Osmonds have sold over 77 million records and have accrued 47 platinum and gold records.
In 1973, a new type of hysteria erupted when the Osmonds toured the U.K. and it soon became known as Osmondmania. Their concerts broke sound barriers as fans rushed the stage to get closer to their favorite Osmond. The Osmond Brothers were voted Best Musical Variety Act of 1974 in Las Vegas, and in 1975 the Osmonds won the Peopleâs
Choice Award as Americaâs Favorite Musical Group.
-more-
In 1982, The Osmonds decided to change their musical direction and started singing country music. Their transition from pop to country music proved to be very successful. Billboard Magazine honored them with the 1982 Breakthrough Award and also acknowledged them as the #1 New Singles Group of the Year. The Country Music Association recognized them with a nomination for Best New Group of the Year as well.
Jay Osmond, the youngest of the original Osmond Brothers group, went from the little guy who would stop his performance to pick up coins the crowd threw to a polished and multi-talented performer with the drive and tenacity that has kept the Osmonds a âhouseholdâ name for fifty years. Jay was about 8 years old when he learned to play the drums. During the â70s, he was voted one of the top drummers in the country.
Jimmy Osmond is the youngest member of the Osmond family. He received the first of many accolades at the age of seven when he was awarded a gold record for a song he recorded in Japanese entitled, My Little Darling. That same year, he was named Japanâs Male Vocalist of the Year. As a solo artist, Jimmy has accumulated six gold records, one platinum record, and two gold albums. Before the age of 15, Jimmy had developed and supervised most of the Osmondâs merchandising business. Soon after, he launched a successful advertising agency that handled production services and campaigns for larger corporations such as Yamaha and Coca-Cola. In 1999, Jimmy was honored by the United States Junior Chamber of Commerce as one of Ten Outstanding Young Americans.
Merrill Osmond as lead singer is now an established solo artist. Merrill has toured the world and itâs his incredible voice as the lead you hear on hits such as One Bad Apple, Crazy Horses, Yo-Yo, Down by the Lazy River, and Love Me for a Reason. Merrill has received two Peopleâs Choice Awards, four #1 Billboard hits and two Grammy Award nominations.
Wayne Osmond is the second oldest to the original performing Osmond Brothers. Wayne highlights the brotherâs sound with his rich deep voice, often featured as lead on songs such as Youâve Lost That Lovinâ Feelinâ by the Righteous Brothers, or gospel numbers such as Swing Low Sweet Chariot.
The Orleans Showroom is an 827 seat venue featuring theater style seating. Show time is 8:00 PM. Tickets priced from $29.95 plus tax are available by calling the Orleans box office at 702-365â7075.

Nevadaâs International History
September 13, 2008 on 8:46 am | In Adventure Travel, Cabinweb, Gaming Resorts, Las Vegas, Outdoors, Road Trips, Rockies, Southwest | Nevadaâs history is well known as being the Wild West, from cowboys and Indians to train robberies and silver and gold mines. Originally belonging to Indian tribes, the area we now know as Nevada was claimed by Mexico before becoming part of the Utah Territory and eventually attaining statehood in 1864.Many famous explorers ventured into the vast expanse of Nevada to find a fast route from the eastern states into the wild frontier of California. Gold (and later silver) was soon discovered in Northern Nevada. The discovery of the Comstock Lode in 1859 was the first of Nevadaâs many mining booms and attracted thousands of new people to the state, including a large Chinese population from San Francisco.
While many temporary towns and trading posts were established throughout the rough Nevada frontier, primarily in Northern Nevada by Mormon settlers and gold miners, the distinction of Nevadaâs first town is often given to Mormon Station, which was founded in 1851 near present-day Carson City and was later renamed Genoa. A nearby settlement in what is now Dayton, just a few miles from Genoa, was founded earlier than Genoa but did not flourish, and the debate over which town was Nevadaâs first settlement still lingers. However, Dayton holds the claim as the site of the first gold discovery in the state in 1849.
Just a few years later, more Mormon settlers moved into the future Utah Territory, and in 1855 a group of these settlers built a fort near what is now downtown Las Vegas. However, in 1857, relations between the federal government and the Mormon Church became tense and Brigham Young, president of the church, called his followers back to Salt Lake City. Nevadaâs sparse population plummeted.
Two years later, gold (and later silver) was discovered on the south flank of Sun Mountain, near what is now Virginia City. The discovery of the Comstock Lode in 1859 was the first of Nevadaâs many mining booms and attracted thousands of new people to the state. In 1860 the Pony Express was established to carry mail between St. Joseph, Mo., and Sacramento, Calif., and was a vital link in Nevadaâs development.
The Territory of Nevada was created by an Act of Congress on March 2, 1861. The state continued to grow as the mines yielded more and more wealth and by 1863, more than 10,000 miners, prospectors and settlers lived on the Comstock. Later, on October 31, 1864, President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed Nevadaâs admission to the Union as the 36th state. The Nevada State Constitution was sent to Lincoln in the longest telegraph message in history up to that time.
The railroad roared into Nevadaâs history in 1868 when the Central Pacific Railroad crossed the state line, and soon other railroads were constructed throughout the state to carry supplies to the miners and towns, as well as money and gold. This brought another wave of Chinese immigration, and at one time 90 percent of the Central Pacific Railroad workers were Chinese. The completion of most of the Westâs railroads is attributed to the Chinese craftsmen who worked tirelessly to link western towns by railroad.
The hard-working Chinese population of Nevada in the 1800s is also credited with developing mining and irrigation practices, and many towns have historic sites telling the story of the Chinese influence on Western culture.
While Nevada is known in part for its history of legalized gambling, it was actually illegal before 1869 and again after 1910. In 1931, Nevada again legalized casino gambling, this time as a means of raising tax revenues and stabilizing the stateâs economy. With the legalization of gambling came the first casinos on Fremont Street in downtown Las Vegas, which was soon to be known as âGlitter Gulch,â and in 1941, the first hotel-casino on the future Las Vegas Strip opened its doors as the El Rancho Vegas.
Today Las Vegas is known around the world for its nonstop entertainment, world-class dining and elite shopping. Nevada has undergone many changes and growth spurts over the years and in 2004 it hit a benchmark in tourism, attracting more than 50 million visitors and generating $40 billion in tourism revenue.
Also in 2004, the Nevada Commission on Tourism became the first and only United States entity to be licensed to advertise in China. The China National Tourism Administration (CNTA) estimates that 90 percent of Chinese travelers to the United States go to Nevada, part of the reason that it awarded the license to Nevada. Within one year, four Chinese cities or provinces signed friendship agreements with Nevada to further promote tourism between Nevada and China.
