BOYZ II MEN THE SOULFUL POWERHOUSES
BOYZ II MEN THE SOULFUL POWERHOUSES
August 16, 2008.  RETURN TO THE ORLEANS SHOWROOMSeptember 19th – 21st 2008
According to the Recording Industry Association of America, Boyz II Men are the most commercially successful R&B group of all time. They have sold ludicrous numbers of records and have been involved in three of the longest running #1 pop singles in history, and they have done it as a unit of equals.
Boyz II Men were formed in 1988 in Philadelphia’s High School of the Creative and Performing Arts. Their big break came in 1989, when they snuck backstage at a Bell Biv DeVoe concert and wowed group member Michael Bivins (also formerly of New Edition , and a budding music entrepreneur) with a cappella version of New Edition’s Can You Stand the Rain. Michael Bivins offered them a deal right then and there. Boyz hit the ground running with the multimillion-selling debut CooleyhighHarmony. From there, they scored a series of milestones that set the bar for musical peers, including record setting R&B/pop chart tenures for their #1 singles, End of the Road and I’ll Make Love to You.
The group also enjoyed success with smash hits like On Bended Knee and One Sweet Day, the longest-standing #1 single in Billboard history featuring Mariah Carey.
Following Cooleyhighharmony, Boyz II Men released six more top-selling albums including Christmas Interpretations, II and Evolution. The group sold over 60 million albums worldwide, earned a host of Grammys, American Music Awards, World Music Awards, NAACP Image Awards, and Soul Train Music Awards. They even managed to break a record previously held by Elvis Presley.
It was the Boyz’s incredible hit, End of the Road that dethroned Presley’s Heartbreak Hotel, as the longest running single at #1. Remarkably, the group later ended up breaking their own record with their phenomenal single, One Sweet Day, which sold over 14 million copies.
The Orleans Showroom, an 827 seat venue features theater style seating. Show time is 8PM. Tickets are priced from $34.95 + tax. For further information or to purchase tickets, please call 702-365-7075.
