LAS VEGAS – The lineup for the “Las Vegas Rocks Variety Show” hosted by entertainer Tony Sacca on Friday, May 17 will include multiple headlining acts: Elvis tribute artist Donny Edwards; acrobat Tino Ferreira; singers Grant Griffin, Paul Stubblefield and Jessica Vanek; and the Michael T Band preforming at the 2 p.m. taping before a live audience in Marilyn’s at the Eastside Cannery on Boulder Highway.

Producer and singer Grant Griffin’s 2013 “The Voices” show will be presented at South Point Hotel, Casino & Spa on Monday, May 20 at 7 p.m. The show will star Griffin and featured special guest stars including Paul Stubblefield and 13-year-old Jessica Vanek.

LAS VEGAS – Defending the Caveman, inside The Improv Showroom at Harrah’s Las Vegas and the longest-running solo play in Broadway history, honored Kevin Burke, the show’s lead caveman of 10 years on Monday, May 13 with a special sendoff. Kevin Burke turned over the ceremonial spear to his successor, Chris Allen, after his final full-time performance in the Las Vegas run of the show.

During the special sendoff, Damian Costa, regional director of entertainment operations at Caesars Entertainment presented Burke with a proclamation, signed by Mayor Carolyn G. Goodman, naming May 13, 2013 “Kevin Burke Day” in Las Vegas. John Bentham, local producer of Defending the Caveman also presented Burke with certificates signed by Senator Dean Heller and Governor Brian Sandoval. Additionally, several celebrities contributed footage to a special video saying goodbye to Burke.

Since 2003 Burke has starred in the critically-acclaimed Broadway tour of Defending the Caveman – a role he was hand-selected for by the show’s creator and original caveman, Rob Becker. In 2007 Burke planted roots as star of the permanent Las Vegas run of the show and most recently broke the Guinness World Record for the most theatrical performances in a 50-day period. Burke has performed more than 3,000 shows during the Las Vegas run and more shows than any other actor in the history of Defending the Caveman, including the original caveman Becker.

Burke’s successor, Chris Allen, began performances on Tuesday, May 14. Burke will continue to perform select limited engagements in the National Broadway Tour of Defending the Caveman as well as a limited engagement at Harrah’s Laughlin this fall.

Comedienne Paula Poundstone Returns to The Orleans Showroom July 5-6

Las Vegas—Comedienne, writer, actress and author Paula Poundstone is bringing her unique stand-up act back to The Orleans Showroom, July 5 and 6.

Poundstone began nurturing her stand-up comedy talent in 1979 on the Boston comedy scene before moving to San Francisco. By 1990 she had moved to Los Angeles, starred in multiple HBO comedy specials and appeared on “Saturday Night Live.” Poundstone was the first woman to receive a Cable ACE Award for a comedy special for her one-hour HBO special “Cats, Cops, and Stuff.” She received her second Cable ACE Award for her self-titled HBO talk show series.

Continuing with many successes throughout the 1990s, Poundstone starred in “The Paula Poundstone Show” on ABC, appeared in her second one-hour special on HBO titled “Paula Poundstone Goes to Harvard,” and appeared on camera and as the voice of characters in several television shows including: “Cybill,” “Science Court,” “Hercules” and “Home Movies.” In 2007, she appeared in a BRAVO comedy special, “Paula Poundstone: Look What the Cat Dragged In.” Poundstone is the recipient of an Emmy® Award for her field pieces on the PBS program “Life & Times” and most recently appeared in the television documentary “Why We Laugh: Funny Women.”

Rock Icons The Lovin’ Spoonful Perform Their Greatest Hits at the Suncoast Showroom July 6 and 7

 Las Vegas—Popular 1960s rock group The Lovin’ Spoonful will perform at the Suncoast Showroom July 6 and 7.

The Lovin’ Spoonful burst onto the music scene to become one of the most revered groups in music history with their first seven singles reaching the Billboard Hot 100 top 10 throughout 1965 and 1966.

Combining the best of folk music and rock and roll, with a touch of country thrown in, they gave us such hits as ”Daydream,” “You Didn’t Have to be So Nice,” ”Nashville Cats” and the anthem for a hot July evening, “Summer in the City.” The bands first single, “Do You Believe in Magic,” remains a defining rock and roll anthem.

Several songs by The Lovin’ Spoonful have been featured in movies including “Pow!” as the opening theme of Woody Allen’s “What’s Up, Tiger Lily” and “Darling Be Home Soon” in Francis Ford Coppola’s “You’re A Big Boy Now.” In 1980, the band performed a cameo in Paul Simon’s film “One-Trick Pony.”
